Artificial intelligence you can audit

An algorithm that decides something about someone's life should be explainable, appealable and switchable off. These articles follow who governs artificial intelligence today, from European regulation to companies regulating themselves, and what happens when whoever writes the rules is the same one who has to follow them.

The criticism runs both ways. A state that watches people through opaque algorithms is no better than a company that does it to sell. The Manifesto proposes small open-source models with a single task each, committees chosen by lot that audit by hand and the last word always human, and the book studies Cybersyn, Stafford Beer's Chilean project, as a precedent.
